Harbottle & Lewis advises the Prince's Charities Foundation

His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales has conceived a programme for sustainability and innovation which aims to inspire, encourage and enable people throughout the world to start to modify their behaviour to lower their use of carbon. The programme is known as "Start".

To promote Start, The Prince's Charities Events Limited (“PCEL”) has organised a series of events using the Start concept throughout the United Kingdom including ten regional marketing campaigns or events known as "Starting Points". Each Starting Point focuses on one particular area of sustainability and climate change and is sponsored by one of the ten Starting Point Sponsors including Addison Lee, ASDA, B&Q, BT, EDF Energy, M&S, Virgin Money, Waitrose and Your Water Companies. The programme culminates in September with a business-to-business conference, The IBM Summit at Start, at Lancaster House and The Start Garden Party in the Royal Parks and the gardens of Clarence House and Marlborough House.

Gerrard Tyrrell has led the Harbottle & Lewis team in advising PCEL in relation to all of the legal arrangements underpinning the programme, with solicitors Anil Matharu and Paul Groves advising on all of the event management, sponsorship and commercial arrangements. IP Partners Shireen Peermohamed and Mark Owen advised PCEL on the intellectual property issues.
