New Partner Appointments and Promotions at Harbottle & Lewis

Harbottle & Lewis elects Chloe Wright and David Scott to its partnership and promotes Paul Groves and Eleanor Porter (née Scholey) to Senior Associate. The promotions take effect on 1 June 2011.

Commenting on the promotions, Managing Partner, Glen Atchison, said, “I am very pleased to announce two new partner appointments and two Senior Associate promotions, in each case in thriving areas of our business. Our promotions are testament to our lawyers’ outstanding talent, expertise and industry knowledge, and our continued commitment to the development of our lawyers. We congratulate them all for their achievements.

Partners

Chloe Wright (Music), who has been a driving force in the firm’s Music Group, has an established reputation in the music industry, advising the various labels of a major record company, as well as independent labels and publishers and artists. Her clients include Universal Music Group, Perfect Songs, Jamie Cullum, Simian Mobile Disco, Conor Maynard, Jakwob and Jade Ewen. Chloe was promoted to Senior Associate in 2010, and has recently been shortlisted by The Lawyer Awards as Assistant Solicitor of the Year. Becoming a music lawyer was an obvious choice for Chloe, having grown up in the business (her father was co-founder and Chairman of Chrysalis Music) – music, she says, is in her blood.

David Scott (Charities, Tax) has been with the firm for 10 years and became Head of the Charities Group in 2010. He advises charities and not-for-profit organisations on charity law issues generally but also providing specific charity related advice to individuals and corporate clients, for example on fundraising compliance, charity concerts, telethons and arrangements with celebrities and sports promoters. The charities David advises include Virgin Unite, Comic Relief and Malaria No More. David also works within the Tax and Private Client Practices where he advises extensively on corporate and personal tax issues (especially on share and business acquisitions and disposals) and on all aspects of share incentive arrangements.

Senior Associates

Eleanor Porter (Employment) has significant experience representing City executives in complex high value (and often high profile) discrimination claims, particularly in cases involving sensitive issues of mental ill-health. She has pro-actively contributed to the success of the firm’s Employment Practice since joining in 2009, providing practical training to HR professionals and presenting at CIPD events.

Paul Groves (Sports, Sponsorship, Interactive Entertainment) was named Assistant Solicitor of the Year at the British Legal Awards 2010. He advises on a wide range of matters including broadcasting rights, interactive games licensing, sponsorship arrangements and other commercial deals for renowned brands, sports teams and personalities. Paul is commended by The Legal 500 as a “computer games expert” and a “rising star” in the field of Media and Entertainment.
