What we do

Our employment lawyers provide practical and cost effective advice on the full range of employment law issues from pre-recruitment to post-termination and everything in between. We represent both employers and employees and we advise parties to consultancy and freelancing arrangements. Click here for more information on our work.

Who we are

Our Employment Group is headed by Partner Marian Derham. Joanne Twiss is also a Partner in the Group and Amal Phillips and Emily Pritty are Solicitors. Glen Atchison advises on share options and employee benefits. We also provide Immigration advice.

Training and Information

We design and deliver training for clients and contacts tailored to their specific needs e.g. sickness absence and equal opportunities. We also periodically hold seminars and briefings on new employment legislation which can be supplemented by in-house client training. Please e-mail Joanne Twiss if you are interested in receiving training.

As employment is one of the most dynamic areas of law we keep abreast of the latest changes and keep clients up to date by providing updates through our quarterly newsletters. Please click here to subscribe to our newsletter.

Our Clients

We represent employers of all sizes in many industries, although we have a particular reputation for acting for clients in the media, entertainment, leisure and communication industries. We also represent senior employees. Click here for examples of our typical types of client.

What the directories say about us

We have been ranked as one of the leading employment practices in London within the league tables of The Legal 500 directory and Chambers and Partners which stated:-

"Clients find this employment team 'responsive and thorough' and its 'proactive, realistic and business-minded' lawyers are extremely helpful on day-to-day issues." Chambers and Partners, 2008.

"The 'accessible' and 'proactive' Marian Derham heads up Harbottle & Lewis LLP's employment group. The team is recommended for its 'vast knowledge of the media industry' but it also acts for senior executives across the board. Joanne Twiss represented Virgin Atlantic Airways in a high-profile disability discrimination claim by an ex-pilot." The Legal 500, 2007.
