Chloe is a Partner in the Music Group.
Chloe advises on a broad range of music and music-related issues including traditional music work such as recording, publishing, management, live performance, distribution, merchandising and production arrangements. She also advises on digital content, licensing and composer agreements, as well as synchronisation licenses for films, musicals, television programmes and advertisements. Chloe has a strong knowledge of the collection societies and their procedures and licensing schemes (advising both licensors and licensees), and has increasingly been advising musicians and performers in respect of their image rights.
A significant part of Chloe's work involves advising small businesses and upcoming musicians in relation to their first foray into the music industry and advising them on a more general commercial basis as well as in relation to specific ventures or contractual issues. She has also advised the various labels of a major record company on the acquisition of rights from artists.
Recently Chloe has advised established artists such as James Ford (Simian Mobile Disco), Simon Fowler and Oscar Harrison (Ocean Colour Scene), Jade Ewen (Sugababes) and Jamie Cullum. She also advises new artists including Conor Maynard, Olivia Safe (opera soprano) and Jakwob (producer and DJ) on their activities in the music business.
In addition, Chloe has significant experience in relation to new media and technology developments such as mobile ringtones and the online exploitation of music in relation to which she has published articles in legal journals.
Chloe graduated from St John's College, Oxford University with an MA. She joined Harbottle & Lewis in March 2002 and qualified as a solicitor in 2004.
