Matthew Barnett advises clients on estate and tax planning, wills, trusts and the administration of estates. Dealing mainly with onshore clients, he advises on the tax efficient use of wills and trusts to mitigate inheritance tax and for the preservation of wealth for future generations.

Matthew also acts for trustees dealing with the day to day administration of a variety of trusts including the preparation of annual trust accounts, ensuring compliance with annual tax reporting requirements and dealing with beneficiary requests and any trustees’ investment advisors.

In addition, Matthew's experience includes advising executors and trustees in connection with the administration of estates of deceased persons including advising on opportunities to mitigate tax through the use of post-death variations. He also advises on Lasting Powers of Attorney (“LPAs”) and deals with the preparation of both Property & Financial and Health & Welfare LPAs and their registration with the Office of the Public Guardian.

Matthew has previously worked in the Private Client departments at Macfarlanes, Campbell Hooper and Speechly Bircham before joining Harbottle & Lewis in 2011
