Tim Fowler advises on both legal and commercial issues in the music industry working regularly on recording agreements, publishing arrangements, management contracts and production agreements. He has also developed a specialism in digital content licensing in the context of music, film and television output.

He acts for a broad spectrum of clients including record labels, publishers, digital content providers, managers and established and breakthrough artists.

He advises on:

  • Recording and Publishing agreements
  • Digital Content Delivery and Licence agreements
  • Synchronisation Licences
  • Composer agreements with major labels and developing entities.

 

WORK HIGHLIGHTS

Tim’s work highlights include acting for:

  • Universal Music and its various labels on the acquisition of audio and audio visual rights from both new and established artists/rights holders
  • ZTT Records and Stiff Records on their catalogue licensing deals
  • Microsoft Corporation on its acquisition of content for its “Zune” service.

 

SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS

Tim gives regular talks to the Music Managers Forum, advising on the commercial and legal issues relating to the management of artists and management agreements.

 

CAREER HISTORY

Tim trained at Baker & McKenzie LLP, qualifying in 2006. He then spent time in the Commercial department at Russells Solicitors, which included a part-time secondment to Universal Music. He joined the Music Group at Harbottle & Lewis LLP in 2010.
