SERVICE

Production and financing agreements

INTRODUCTION

We have extensive experience advising clients on production, financing and distribution agreements across a broad spectrum of creative industries including film, television, theatre and other forms of media and entertainment.

Film

We guide film producers, as well as lenders, banks and financiers, through the process of production and distribution agreements, and film financing, providing prompt, commercial and pragmatic advice. As front runners in this field we also have dedicated specialists who can advise on co-productions, EIS and SEIS schemes and the audio-visual expenditure credit (AVEC), including the enhanced AVEC/independent film tax credit.

TV

We advise a range of clients from across the TV sector, ranging from large UK and US production companies and studios to independent producers, SVOD platforms, financiers and distributors. We frequently advise talent, presenters, rights holders and locations on their deals with production companies for TV projects. Another recognised strength is on financing, where we have expertise in acting both for producers and for investors and lenders. As outlined above, we can also advise productions on the AVEC scheme as it pertains to TV productions.

Media finance

We have vast experience helping clients with financial investment in projects in the media and entertainment sector. Our clients benefit from working with lawyers who have a true understanding of how, and why, business models are developing. We have been working with clients in film finance, TV finance, video games finance, music finance, publishing finance and theatre finance for decades.

Our expertise in media finance, including loan, security and inter-party arrangements, combined with an in-depth knowledge of the sector, means we can offer you expert advice, adding value to your deals. We will call on specialist advice within the firm where required, for example in the areas of tax, intellectual property, corporate and insolvency.

What people say

The team understand the complexities of film finance and the nuances of each case and the potential issues that they can foresee in the future. It is always a collaborative effort with a real understanding of what we as a client are wanting to achieve to get the best result.”

The Legal 500

Abigail Payne is a film financing stalwart. There are many occasions we would be lost without Abigail’s knowledge and expertise. She is calm, reassuring and a joy to work with. Abigail brings clarity to complex financing arrangements, making sense of the risks and surfacing issues others may miss.”

The Legal 500

The key point for me is the focus of the firm on the media sector, specifically film and TV. Also meaning that we can rely on lawyers at the firm with specialties other than commercial film and TV work providing advice through the lens of our sector.’

The Legal 500

They always maintain the highest of standards and their advice is genuinely second to none. They have in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of the industry and consistently contribute to the businesses in a positive and supportive way. I cannot recommend them highly enough.’
